MARDI GRAS Sydney
Every year starting in February Sydney gets ready for the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
The colourful event is the largest kind in the world, and Sydney comes alive for the main parade, which takes place down Oxford Street the first weekend of March. Throughout the month there are plenty of daily events like fair days, cabarets, comedy nights etc.
The Jolly Swagman Hostel Sydney gets into the spirit of the festival and encourages backpackers to get all dressed up and head down to the parade.
The Mardi Gras parade starts at 8pm at Hyde Park, travels along Oxford Street and ends at Moore Park where the largest dance party kicks off! This all takes place only a short walk from the Jolly Swagman Hostel in Sydney.
